Speaker Connections for proper impedance match A note about amplifiers: You should always use the recommended load for your amplifier. However, if you must use a load other than the recommended load, here is a short guide. Most solid-state amplifiers would rather look at an open circuit no speaker at all than a load. Therefore, you can usually use a load that is higher than the recommended load. Do not use a lower impedance load, as this could cause serious damage to your SS amp. On the other hand, most tube amplifiers need a load to avoid transformer or tube socket damage. If a mismatch can not be avoided on a tube amp, it is better to go towards a lower impedance rather than too high of a speaker impedance. This may stress the tubes some, but, tubes are cheaper than transformers. As the graphic shows, you connect the positive wire to speaker A’s positive terminal, connect a wire from speaker A’s negative terminal to speaker B’s positive wire, and then connect the negative wire to the negative terminal of speaker B.
How to Bi-Wire and Bi-Amp Stereo Speakers
Class AB amps combine the good points of class A and B amps. They have the improved efficiency of class B amps and distortion performance that is a lot closer to that of a class A amp. With such amplifiers, distortion is worst when the signal is low, and generally lowest when the signal is just reaching the point of clipping.
What size speakers do you need? If you place large speakers in a small room, it’s going to have an effect on the sound. Same goes if they’re too small.
It shows on the picture by the two AC outputs 7 and 8. I cannot find a download for the manual so I cannot confirm that both of these AC outputs are milliamps but this is what it looks like from the data on their website. Will this damage the unit? The amp comes with FX loop but currently my new setup is running everything upfront. I only want to gate my drive pedals and vibe. The pedals in use are as below: You want to set up a loop with the G String as follows: The output will drive your Strymon and Dyna Verb without any truncation of the delay or reverb and the output of these effects will feed the input of your amplifier.
And to switch between just distortion to just preamp, do I have to hit two buttons or does turning off distortion automatically engage preamp? The Distortion channel and a Preamp channel. Both have a full EQ section so you can use the THETA as both your clean channel by using the Preamp section for your clean tone and then use the Distortion channel for your high gain distortion tone.
The distortion channel has plenty of gain, which allows you to use the Preamp for your clean tone and the Preamp for your clean channel. You can listen to any of the Ethan Brosh videos on line just do a search for Ethan Brosh , he is using the THETA with just the distort channel for his high gain and says he does not need any more gain by using the preamp as an overdrive. You can take one of the standard one button switches for amp channel switching and make this footswitch if you prefer to change between the two channels with a single button.

Hi Simon! Thanks for posting! Very sorry for the late reply. I haven’t tried the THR10 so I can’t really comment on it. Obviously you can’t expect a small bedroom amp to sound like a huge tube stack but you should be able to get very nice sounds with or without pedals with smaller amps too.
Just what is tone? What is a good tone and how do you achieve it? Which amps you should choose for your setup and how to get the tones you want. Check out part 1 and part 2. Amps People tend to prioritize guitars and a bunch of pedals and forget the importance of a good sounding amp. Choosing the right amp for your setup is crucial for getting the tones you want from your guitar and pedals. I strongly suggest that you buy a guitar and amp before you spend all your savings on pedals.
This will ensure the best fundament for your tones and playing. A tube amp consist of a pre-amp section that takes the small signal from your guitar and amplifies it enough to drive the power amp section. Most amps allow you to manipulate the pre-amp signal with a number of gain and EQ controls. The signal is then fed into the power amp, which gives the power to drive the speakers.

Speakers Clint DeBoer Speaker Impedance Rating Explained That speaker impedance rating on your towers and bookshelf speakers is held up as a mystery—something strange and mystic, yet dangerous. The bottom line is that people are confused about speaker impedance. Speaker Impedance Defined I think the easiest way to define speaker impedance is to say that it is the resistance any speaker gives to the current and voltage being applied to it.
The Nobsound 6P1 is a very basic, attractive looking class-A integrated tube amp with modest power output that’s suitable for running one music source and a fairly efficient pair of speakers.
You can use a flat screen TV. You can use a movie projector and movie screen. Basically anything you want to use to view either TV or a movie or sports programming. This is a stereo amplifier which you can connect your speakers and subwoofer. The Home Theater in a box is a complete surround sound system in one box. In this case, the price will directly relate to the quality of the system. The less you pay the lower the sound quality and the reverse of that is maybe all you want is some background sound all around you.
But, if you are looking for a solid sound quality plan to pay money for it. Onkyo has a real nice complete package minus the speaker wire for a reasonable price. The last option is the sound bar. A sound bar works by projecting the sound out into a room to create the allusion of sound from all sides. Nor do you need extra speakers if you have a Sound Bar.

Friday, July 31, Review: JBL Xtreme – how much bass can you handle? The JBL Xtreme buy from amazon not to confuse with the older and meanwhile discontinued JBL OnBeat Xtreme suddenly appeared in an inconspicuous way without any preceding official announcement. There was just a leak on Youtube and some weeks later it was already available on the european JBL site for pre-order, which I did immediately as I had this particular feeling that JBL might really have an interesting product here.
So far it doesn’t seem to be available in the US yet, and to tell the truth I have no idea when it is going to be released there and why it hasn’t been already released. Looking back in the history it took JBL a long way to finally come up with some impressive portable speakers after a period with rather underwhelming devices.
One of the questions I get asked frequently is how to design a speaker cab. I’m not the best source of info in the world for this, so luckily Michael Sabolish has come to the rescue with an excellent write up for you .
Watching a movie on a properly set up surround sound system, or listening to your music through a new set of speakers can be an amazing experience. But, the key to a great home theater isn’t just spending a lot of money. Setting up the system correctly is just as important as what you buy. This guide, very simply, walks through the basics of speaker placement, how to hook everything up, and how to change a few settings to really make your system shine.

to the tape record output of the stereo receiver and you can use any BT speakers you like. These will have volume independent of the wired speakers which should be useful. to the tape record.
In this article we look at some of the practical ways of wiring four speakers to each amplifier left and right. For example, it is normal to have your main HiFi amplifier in the lounge room. It is also common to want to have some speakers in the family room, outside patio or pool area and in the workshop or garage. If you need to connect just 2 pair of speakers to a HiFi stereo amplifier that is, 2 speakers to 1 amp , see my article on How to connect 2 speakers to 1 amplifier.
I have had many people over the years tell me it is easy to connect multiple speakers — all you have to do is wire the speakers in series. In the following diagrams I will only show the wiring for one side of a stereo amplifier, lets says the left side of the stereo. In reality this wiring needs to be duplicated for the right side speakers too. Four speakers wired in parallel This diagram shows how to wire four speakers in parallel.
It is the same as wiring each speaker directly from the amplifier, like this: Wiring speakers in parallel is not a good way of connecting three, four or more HiFi speakers as it puts too much load on the amplifier as explained in earlier article Four speakers wired in series This diagram shows how to wire four speakers in series.
Again this is not a recommended way of wiring four speakers although it will work , nor is it very practical.

QUESTION: I’d like to change my setup and use a pedal preamp distortion. Where does it go? ANSWER: You can put a preamp distortion unit in between Guitar OUT and Decimator IN and then plug Decimator OUT into the input of your amp This will allow the Decimator G .
The following is the most basic system. It involves a head unit HU and 2 pairs of speakers which are driven by the head unit’s internal amplifier. You can see that the battery terminal of the HU is connected to a constant source of power the battery with an inline fuse. The accessory wire for the HU is connected to a power source which only has power when the ignition switch is in the ‘on’ or ‘acc’ positions. The battery and accessory connections will not be shown in the following diagrams but will be the same for all of the systems.
The lines point to the speakers but the exact connection isn’t shown. The colored speaker wires from the HU are going to be connected to the positive speaker terminal of the speaker. The black or darker speaker wire will be connected to the negative speaker terminal. Of course, this is just a generic type of diagram and you should consult the wiring diagram which was supplied with the HU. Using the HU’s internal amplifier and an external amplifier: In this diagram, you see that the front speakers are being driven from the HU’s internal amplifier and a pair of rear speakers are being powered by an external amplifier.
This type of system has very little chance of sounding good. If the amplifier is being used because more volume is desired and the front and rear speakers are roughly equivalent in efficiency then the front speaker’s amplifier will probably be driven into clipping well before the external amplifier reaches clipping.
The series from Philips are for instance based on a firmware mainly used by radio enthusiasts, called ir-mmi: It is very much possible, but it mostly depends on streamlined equipiment that is intended to co-exist. Many guitar amplifiers and small stereos come with amplifiers pre-attached to speakers, so there is no need to connect those. However, most high-end guitar amplifiers have speakers sold separately, or allow you to connect to speakers in addition to the one that came with the amp. Similarly, most high-end home stereos require you to connect the speakers to the amplifier manually. Connecting a Speaker to a Guitar Amp Locate the speaker output jack on your guitar amp.
Usually, this is a quarter-inch input hole, though some guitar amps also have speaker output jacks for Speakon cables or XLR cables. Most of the time, the speaker output jack is on the back of the amp. Plug one end of your speaker cable quarter-inch, Speakon, or XLR into the speaker output jack on your amp. Locate the input jack on the back of your speaker cabinet.
Usually, the input jack requires the same kind of cable as the speaker output jack on the amp quarter-inch, Speakon, or XLR.
